Leeds / Lincoln / Leeds.
I'm back from a quick trip to the very pretty town of Lincoln [5], where I've visited my former M/C [6] colleague turned University of Lincoln [7] lecturer Guy Redden [8], to catch up and do a quick guest lecture: a very much revised version of 'Anyone Can Edit' [9], the lecture I toured on the U.S. East Coast in late 2005 [10]. This new revision of the lecture [9] incorporates some more of the research I'm currently undertaking for my book project From Production to Produsage [11], of course. After the lecture, I was also able to catch up with some more of the students at Lincoln, which was very enjoyable.

Lincoln turned out to be quite nice - a smaller town than Leeds, with a great deal of history: Roman ruins of the original Lindum Colonia can be found neighbouring the medieval Cathedral and Castle. A relatively new university, the University of Lincoln [12] itself is housed on an expanding campus by the side of the Brayford, a lake at the centre of town. And after a number of years, of course it was great to see Guy again, too - many thanks for the warm welcome and the quick tour of the town!

On the way there, I did have my obligatory first-hand experience of the privatised British rail services [13], of course - the train which was to be the second leg of my journey (from Doncaster to Lincoln) was cancelled by Central Trains [14] without prior notice, due to mechanical difficulties. So, along with my fellow travellers, we took the scenic route - and what perhaps most clearly indicated the systemic problems with the rail network was that there was barely a murmur of exasperation or discontent when the cancellation was announced. Ah well - another disastrous legacy of the Thatcher/Major years. When it's time to go up to ICE3 [15] in Scotland, I'll hire a car...
